Statistical populationGeneral remarks:
Data only cover companies that come under the Solvency II directive. Concerning solvency data, the minimum required capital was understood as the SCR and the available solvency capital was understood as the total eligible own funds to meet the SCR.
In the case of data on premiums, business abroad, gross claims payments and gross operating expenses, composite undertakings include reinsurers because they may have also life or non-life direct business. In the balance sheet and income statements of reinsurers, reinsurers are classified as composite undertakings for the same reasons.
The breakdown by type of undertaking may slightly differ from the breakdown by Line of Business because of the French National law (some life insurers have non-life business on an auxiliary basis and vice versa). Nevertheless, there is no mismatch in the total premiums and the breakdown by type of activity.
