National Inventory Submissions 2023 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC, CRF tables), and replies to the OECD State of the Environment Questionnaire.
This dataset presents trends in man-made emissions of major greenhouse gases and emissions by gas.
Data refer to total emissions of CO2 (emissions from energy use and industrial processes, e.g. cement production), CH4 (methane emissions from solid waste, livestock, mining of hard coal and lignite, rice paddies, agriculture and leaks from natural gas pipelines), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3). Data exclude indirect CO2.
For UNCCCC Annex I countries, data follow the IPCC 2006 guideline. Territories' coverage are as those defined in the Kyoto Protocol.
Next update, including 2022 data for Annex I parties is expected in May 2024.
OECD aggregates include estimates.
The GDP data to calculate intensities is expressed in USD at 2015 prices and PPPs.
Global Warming Potentials (GWP)
When converting the data from tonnes to CO2 equivalents for Annex I countries these calculations were based on defaults from Assessment Report 4 (AR4). As regards the non-Annex I countries the factors from the following reports were used for the following countries: (SAR) Second Assessment Report for Brazil, Costa Rica, Israel, Korea, South Africa, AR4 for Chile and AR5 for Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Mexico.
AFOLU
Argentina, Costa Rica and South Africa compile their GHGs emission data according to the IPCCC 2006 guideline, using the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) category instead of Agriculture and Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) categories.
The OECD secretariat mapped the AFOLU sub-categories as follow: Agriculture includes categories 3A (Livestock) and 3C (aggregate sources and non-CO2 emissions from Land). LULUCF includes categories 3B (Land) and 3D (Other).
