The STAN Bilateral Trade Database by Industry and End-use category (BTDIxE), is a new product where values of imports and exports of goods are broken down both by industrial sectors and by end-use categories. BTDIxE has been designed to extend the 'traditional' BTD database and allows, for example, insights into the patterns of trade in intermediate goods between countries to track global production networks and supply chains and it helps to address policy issues such as trade in value added and trade in tasks.
In this first version of BTDIxE, estimates of imports and exports of goods are presented for the period 1995-2010 (or latest available year) and for 64 reporters: all OECD Member Countries and 30 non member economies, notably the BRIICS (Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, Indonesia, China and South Africa). It should be noted that underlying series for OECD countries are from OECD International Trade by Commodity Statistics., while data for non OECD economies come from UNSD database COMTRADE.
The list of partners in BTDIxE covers all 34 OECD countries, 30 non member economies, the Rest of world, the partner Unspecified, and the Total World.
Trade flows are divided into 46 economic activities and 9 categories including capital goods, intermediate goods and household consumption.
A full description of BTDIxE can be found in the following document: the database full documentation.
Users are encouraged to send their comments, questions, or to signal any apparent errors regarding this database to stan.contact@oecd.org mentioning BTDIxE in the title of their message.
Released in: December 2011.
Users can download country data in the form of flat files from the OECD.STAT export menu: go to EXPORT and READY-MADE FILES.
Values of exports and imports of goods are provided in thousands of current US dollars.
End-use shares are expressed in percentage of total category for each industry.
