The scope is the coverage or sphere of what is to be observed. It is the total membership or population of a defined set of people, object or events.

In SDMX, "Scope/Coverage" describes the coverage of the statistics and how consistent this is with internationally accepted standards, guidelines, or good practices. The scope/coverage includes a description of target population, and geographic, sector, institutional, item, population, product, and other coverage.
