| ESP.HOHWIS....... | Name of collection/source Prior to 2001, data were collected via the quarterly survey of establishments 'Encuesta de Salarios', carried out by the INE. Around 10 500 establishments were surveyed. From 2001, the 'Indice de Costes Laborales' survey (which surveys 19 000 establishments) replaces the 'Encuesta de Salarios' survey. The change in the survey occurred to meet the Eurostat standards used to measure labour costs within the member states.
Source Periodicity The data are measured at the end of the month and the data disseminated represent the monthly average for the quarter.
Variables collected The survey provides estimates for: Average earnings for hour worked; average earnings for worker and month; and average number of hours worked for worker and month.

Key statistical concept Data correspond to total gross earnings, in cash or in kind, paid to employees before social security or tax deductions. They include basic pay, supplements, payments for over-time, extraordinary payments and deferred payments. Payments that are not a part of wages, such as indemnities or allowances, are not included.
Estimation Hourly earnings is calculated by dividing total monthly earnings of persons on the payroll by the total number of hours worked.
