Sampling
Data are collected via the INEGI's Monthly Industrial Survey, Encuesta Industrial Mensual (EIM), whose target population consists of establishments with more than 300 employees based on the 2004 Census. The sample consists of 7328 establishments covering the 230 most important activities and a minimum of 80% of the gross value added in manufacturing.

Data refer to monthly earnings of all employees in the manufacturing industry. Earnings are gross earnings, before any deduction, and comprise wages, salaries and social benefits paid to employees for normal and supplementary hours in the reference month. Holiday pay, bonuses and wages and salaries paid to employees temporarily laid off are also included, as well as employers' contributions to Social Security. Fees or commissions received by people working on a freelance basis and pensions are excluded.
