Under the Act on the National Bank of Poland (NBP) of August 29, 1997, as published in the Dziennik Ustaw (Journal of Laws) of 1997, No. 140, Item 938, the NBP is obligated to compile the balance of payments and the international investment position statement and to report thereon to Parliament.

All data from 2000 is compiled on a transaction basis. Annual data from 1994 are compiled on a transaction basis while quarterly data 1997Q1 to 1999Q4 are compiled on a cash basis.

Unit of measure used
Balance of payments data covering all transaction with the rest of the world are disseminated in millions of Polish Zloty, EUR and US dollars.

Key statistical concept
The classification of accounts used corresponds generally to the recommendations of BPM5. All subannual data pre-2000Q1 is reported on a cash basis, whereas the annual data (1994-1999) is transaction based. This results in a large 'Unclassified transactions on current account: net' and 'Net errors and omissions' figures for the quarterly period 1997Q1-1999Q4.
Seasonal adjustment
Annual data (post 2000) are the sum of quarterly figures. OECD performs the seasonal adjustment using an option which ensures that the seasonally adjusted monthly or quarterly figures add to the corresponding unadjusted annual data.
Other manipulations
The data are routinely revised. Monthly B.o.P, data: 1. first revision when data of the following month become available, 2. further revisions when data referring to the corresponding quarterly B.o.P. become available or are revised.
