Name of collection/source The type of source is a statistical survey: Trade Survey of Turnover and Employment. Turnover reflects the demand side of production. It is used for analysis of market of goods and services.

Variables collected Variables collected: turnover, of which turnover from trade, hotels and restaurants. The turnover indicators covers the sale of finished products, intermediary products and services, as well as the income from the resale of goods in the same condition as received. It excludes reduction and rebates. VAT and excise duty is not included. The particular items are based on the company accounting headings.
Sampling All enterprises with 20 or more employees registered in the business register, small enterprises with the business register with less than 20 employees having an annual turnover in excess of 100 million SKK and sole proprietors that have an annual turnover in excess of 100 million SKK. Sample of small enterprises and sole proprietors performing their business activity on the base of issued trade licenses according to Act no.455/1991 [Digest] (the data source is the number of issued trade licences).
Statistical population Enterprises (sole proprietor) with principal activity in Division 47, NACE Rev.2.
Item coverage Retail sales include the sales of goods and receipts for accommodation and catering, and services including motor vehicle repairs.
Key statistical concept Data refer to the sales value of goods and services sold directly to consumers for their own use. The data include the VAT introduced on 1 January 1993, as well as other taxes.
Aggregation and consolidation Monthly data for total retail sales are recalculated on the basis of the reports derived from a quarterly sample. This calculation can occur after the current year as data from an annual report is also included. Volume data are expressed in December 2000 constant prices.
Estimation The results of small enterprises and sole proprietors are grossed up from the sample to the population. The estimation is done by using the Horwitz-Thompson estimator with regards to the activity of the enterprise. The initial weights are modified according to the non-response rate of non-active units.
Quality comments Timeliness of data is aproximately 40 days after the reference period-common date for the national release of monthly data. Exception for data transmission to ES:30 days after the reference month.
