Sampling
The monthly reporting panel consists of most manufacturing companies with $500 million or more in annual shipments. It also includes selected smaller companies.
Item coverage
Data refer to total manufactured goods and manufactured investment goods.
Other coverage
Orders data are not collected from indutries that have mostly immediate deliveries. Data prior to Feburary 1992 are based on the SIC. From February 1992, the data are based on the North American Inductry Classification (NAICS).
Key statistical concept
Data refer to value of New order, which are a communication of an intention to buy for immediate or future delivery. New orders are net of cancellations received during the period.
