Sector coverage Responses provide a reasonable cross-section of Australian manufacturing in respect of industry groups and size of operation.
Key statistical concept Results of the business tendency survey reflect businessmen's judgement on
developments experienced over the last quarter, their assessment of the current
situation and their expectations over the following quarter. Responses are
processed by the cut-off date (in the middle of the last month of the quarter.
For all series except Firms working at above normal capacity, data are presented
as the balance of positive ("improve", "up") over negative ("deteriorate",
"down") replies expressed as a percentage of total replies.
