Country: Korea Subject: Business tendency surveys (construction)

Name of collection/source
Data are derived from the Business Survey Index (BSI) carried out by the Bank of Korea. The survey was conducted on a quarterly basis from 1991 to 2002. From January 2003 onwards, it is conducted on a monthly basis. The survey is conducted by mail questionnaires or electronic (internet, e-mail) questionnaires. Results are available within two weeks after the close of collection (reference period).

Sampling
The sample size is 2,902 Corporations drawn from the sample frame (register) of 47,333 Units. The Response Rate is about 87% and the sampling method is stratified random sampling by industry and sales.


Sector coverage
Sector coverage includes 21 sub-sectors of manufacturing and 11 non-manufacturing sectors such as Fishing, Mining & quarrying, Electricity & Gas & Steam supply, Construction, Wholesale and retail trade, Hotels, Transport, Communication, Real estate and Renting, Business Services, Recreational & cultural & sporting activities. Geographical coverage is National. Survey coverage is in terms of Sales, a sample survey of corporations whose annual sales were more than 2.5billion earned in the 2001 fiscal year.


Key statistical concept
The data are classified by industry (KSIC, Korean Standard Industrial Classification). The responses are measured on a three point scale, with the results displayed as the balance of positive percentage – negative percentage +100, over negative replies expressed as a percentage of total replies. Replies are not weighted.


Weights
Each sample unit has same weight.


Seasonal adjustment
Data are partially seasonally adjusted by respondents
