US University of Michigan

Key statistical concept
The index measures consumers' attitude towards current and expected personal finances, expected business conditions and current buying conditions for durable goods.

Other manipulations
Each of the questions has three possible answers which are "good times", "no change" and "bad times". The weights of the answers are respectively 2,1 and 0. The index is then calculated as a simple average of individual indicators.
