Characteristics

Reference period Data are mid-year estimates. The figures for the 1961-2001 period are intercensus population estimates obtained according to 1960, 1970, 1981, 1991 and 2001 Census. The last population census took place in 2001. Data for the years 2002 onwards correspond to now-casts.

Scope

Population coverage Data refer to the resident population (de jure). Data refer to the entire territory (Peninsula, Baleares and Canary islands) and, from 1971, including population of Ceuta and Melilla.
