Name of collection/source
The primary source of the adta is the Monthly Production Inquiry (MPI). Data include estimates for non-respondents and for establishments which are not sampled.
They cover engineering industry, mechanical, instrument, electrical and optical engineering, excluding transport equipment for different types of goods (e.g Total goods, goods for Domestic market and Export goods).
The UK SIC 2007 is coherent with the ISIC Rev. 4.
Key statistical concept
Data refer to volume indices of net new orders and are net of cancellations. Orders are defined as the value of all legally binding contracts (covering at least quantities and prices) relating to future shipments by a producer of goods during the reference month. New orders correspond to all orders received in the course of the reference month. Re-sales and orders for goods which will be manufactured partially or totally by subcontractors are included.
UK SIC 2007 (compatible with NACE Rev. 2)
Aggregation and consolidation
Orders are adjusted for changes in prices that occurred during the reference month. A Laspeyres index with base year 2000=100 is calculated using the output price index as deflator.
