Data refer to the resident population (de jure).

Key statistical concept
From 1970 to 2009 the source are the projections made by the Consejo Nacional de Población (CONAPO) based in turn in the information provided by Population Census (1970, 1980, 1990, 2000) Countdowns (1995, 2005), Surveys of Demographic Dynamic (ENADID 1997, 2007) as well external sources such as The US' Current Population Survey and American Community Survey so to track down migration trends. Population figures for 2010 are Census data.

Quality comments

Series breaks:
There is a break in series since the 2010 data is the result of the 2010 Census population while the rest of the population data refer to previous Census.
According to the latest Census the population in 2010 was 112,3 million compared to the previous estimate of 108,4 million. The current population data are going to be replaced in light of the data release of the 2010 Population Census.
The old population projections data for 2010-2012 are available in the attached table.
