Direct source Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia Related Links: SORS Data source(s) used Data on turnover are collected with the monthly statistical survey on enterprises registered in retail trade, sale and maintenance of motor vehicles (TRG/M). Until the end of 2007 data on turnover have been collected from a sample of units with TRG/M questionnaires by postal method. Since 2008 the main sources of data on turnover are the data which are reported by enterprises to the Tax Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for the purpose of value added tax return (DDV-O form). The transition to the administrative source in 2008 as the main source of data was necessary in order to lower the response burden of enterprises. In order to provide results that are close enough to the statistical definition of the observed phenomenon and to stay in touch with the most important reporting units, data on turnover have been collected directly by the source from 230 units with the monthly TRG/M questionnaire by postal method. The source of data is the accounting documentation of enterprises and only exceptionally their estimates. Source Periodicity Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia
Scope
Population coverage Observation units are mostly the enterprises whose principal activity is classified into retail trade, sale and maintenance of motor vehicles. Data refer to the whole enterprise, including eventual secondary activity not related to above mentioned activities. In addition, there are several enterprises in Slovenia whose principal activity is not one of the activities mentioned above, but which carry out significant secondary activities. Due to this fact the source adjusts the results by having added the corresponding part of retail trade, sale and maintenance of motor vehicles of these enterprises. Statistical population Mostly enterprises whose principal activity is classified into retail trade, sale and maintenance of motor vehicles (approximately 3,200 units). Data refer to the whole enterprise, including eventual secondary activity not related to above mentioned activities. For the several enterprises in Slovenia whose principal activity is not one of the activities mentioned above, but which carry out significant secondary activities, the source adjusts the results by having added the corresponding part of retail trade, sale and maintenance of motor vehicles of these enterprises. The criteria of definition of the unit are the half-yearly turnover of the enterprise and the number of persons in paid employment. Units are sorted by descending previous turnover and then the source selects a sufficient number of units to exceed the defined share (approx. 60%) of turnover over the total turnover in the selected activity group.

Seasonal adjustment Indices are seasonally adjusted (SA) with the Tramo/Seats method based on ARIMA models. The models are checked by the source every year and if they have changed, the source strives to keep changes at a minimum. Seasonality and calendar effects are removed in the case where the effects are statistically significant. Aggregation and consolidation Volumes are deflated using consumer price indices.
