RANDOM PROCESS

Statistics Directorate
Definition:
In a general sense the term is synonymous with the more usual and preferable “stochastic” process.

It is sometimes employed to denote a process in which the movement from one state to the next is determined by a variate which is independent of the initial and final state. It is better to denote such as process as a pure random process.
