Browser compatibility

QWIDS functions in Windows and Mac OS. Compatible browsers include Internet Explorer (IE), FireFox, Chrome and Safari.
Known issues: With IE7, some users may receive a "Stop running this script?" message; click "No" to continue using QWIDS.
With IE8 and above, enable Compatibility View if QWIDS does not run correctly.

Are disbursement data gross or net?

Selecting disbursements in the top level core dimensions ("What type of data are you looking for?") are by default net disbursements. Gross disbursements are available under "Additional Data Selection Options" and are explicitly labelled as gross.

3
How do I select total ODA flows from all donors to developing countries?

We collect data on both inflows to multilateral agencies from DAC and non-DAC countries and outflows from multilaterals to developing countries. By adding the two amounts together (inflows and outflows), you overstate the total resources being transferred through aid by counting essentially the same resources at two different points of measurement.

To select ODA flows from all donors to developing countries, you need to change the recipient dimension to "ALL DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, TOTAL" and select "ALL DONORS" in the donor dimension. Please see Query 1 on the Popular Queries page for a predefined query to extract total net ODA disbursements from all donors to developing countries.

4
Why do I not see the items I selected in the core dimensions ("What type of data are you looking for?") when I open the "Additional Data Selection Options" pane?

"Additional Data Selection Options" lists additional criteria. It allows you to select more detailed options within (or under) the main selection (grouping) but does not repeat the selection already made and retained in the core dimensions.

For example: If you select Disbursement under Flow Type and then go to "Additional Data Selection Options", the Flow Type Details displays Disbursement Grouping and lists Gross Disbursement. Since [net] Disbursements are already selected, only additional related options are displayed here.

5
What does the term "Memo" refer to?

"Memo" is used to designate items which provide additional information already included in other categories or which assemble information from several categories.

6
How can I select all items in a category?

To select (or deselect) all items in a category, click (or unclick) the corresponding item titled "... Grouping", i.e. click on "Africa Grouping" to select all individual recipient countries in Africa.

7
How can I get data by sector?

A breakdown of data by donor and broad sector category is available for Commitments at a broad level. To access data by donor, recipient and sector (broad sector categories or detailed sector codes), select ALL DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, TOTAL (aggregate) or any specific countries listed under Recipient(s). Note: These data are also available for disbursements, please refer to the Coverage statistics.

8
How can I get detailed sector codes?

To access data broken down by donor, recipient and sector (broad sector categories or detailed sector codes), select ALL DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, TOTAL (aggregate) or any specific countries under recipient. Note: These data are available for both commitments and disbursements, please refer to the Coverage statistics. Alternatively, you can click on "Show project-level data and/or detailed sector level data".

9
What are "Types of Aid"?

Types of aid were introduced in DAC Statistics for reporting on 2010 flows, to distinguish between the various modalities of aid. See the definitions. The presentation of data online now reflects this new aid classification. However, as data prior to 2010 were not reported in line with this typology, users should be aware that a mapping exercise was carried out, where possible, but for many types of aid, data for years prior to 2010 are incomplete.

I cannot select an item...
Why do I get a message saying "Your choice will change the source of data"?

QWIDS is based on several different sources. Some specific information is available in each of them, so certain combinations of selections are not compatible. When making your selection, you point the wizard towards one of the sources, but as you select, you may subsequently choose something that is incompatible with a previous selection. That is why a box sometimes appears saying that "Your choice will change the source of data". Once the first choices have been made, some options are greyed out. To begin again, click "Reset All Selections", then select the most important field for your question. To disable this reminder, simply click the box "Don't show this message to me again in this session".

11
Where can I find data on aid in support of Policy markers (Gender Equality, Participatory Development/Good Governance and Environment)?

Policy markers are not available as a search criteria in QWIDS as their use and interpretation are very specific and require a good knowledge of DAC/CRS definitions. However, these markers are available at a micro data level (on the field by policy marker) and can be used and interpreted according to Annex 17 of the Converged Statistical Reporting Directives.

12
Where can I find information on aid in support of RIO conventions on desertification, climate change adaptation/mitigation and biodiversity?

Aid in support of these Rio conventions is reported by donors through three policy markers (desertification, climate change adaptation/mitigation and biodiversity). These markers are not available as a search criteria in QWIDS as their use and interpretation are very specific and require a good knowledge of DAC/CRS definitions. However, they are available at a micro data level (on the field by RIO marker) and can be used and interpreted according to Annex 18 of the Converged Statistical Reporting Directives.
