DATA EXCHANGE

Statistics Directorate
Definition:
Data exchange is the process of sending and receiving data in such a manner that the information content or meaning assigned to the data is not altered during the transmission.

Context:
Data exchange context is the framework in which two or more partners agree to: exchange one or more identified sets of data and related attributes (Exchanged time series, (ETS)); use one or more key families to serve this requirement, possibly, on some business and implementation agreements.

Exchanged time series (ETS) is a collection of data sets (European Central Bank (ECB), Bank for International Settlement (BIS), Eurostat, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), "GESMES/TS User Guide", Release 3.00, February, 2003; unpublished on paper, available at http://www.sdmx.org/Data/GesmesTS_rel3.pdf).
