Definition:
An ecosystem is a system in which the interaction between different organisms and their environment generates a cyclic interchange of materials and energy.

Context:
Groups of organisms and the physical environment they inhabit. Three main types of ecosystem assets are recognised in the SEEA; terrestrial ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems and atmospheric systems.
